Giorgio Rapicavoli of Eating House/Taperia Raca, Alberto Cabrera of Bread + Butter |pan con mantequilla and Jose Mendin of The Pubbelly Group – are joining forces with FMCancer, a public charity organization dedicated to providing financial assistance to young adults fighting cancer, to host a special charitable brunch on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at PB Steak in Sunset Harbour on South Beach.
Dubbed Booze, Brunch & Boobs, Saturday’s event will directly benefit local Hilarey Reader Duarte, this quarter’s FMCancer beneficiary, who was diagnosed with Stage 3C breast cancer last October, just five weeks before her wedding.
Reservations are required, as there are only two seatings – noon and 2:30 p.m. With spirits high, Reader Duarte and fellow brunchers lucky enough to snag a seat will feast on a six-course family-style tasting menu, created by all three cutting-edge chefs.
The boozy brunch is priced at $50 per person, with the option of $20 Bottomless Zonin Prosecco Mimosas or $28 Bottomless Bloody Mary’s, Zonin Prosecco Mimosas, Sangria, & Micheladas.

Founded by young adult cancer survivor, Jamie Bendola, FMCancer is a 501(c)(3) Public Charity Organization dedicated to spreading awareness and providing free financial assistance to help young adults fight cancer and survive the aftermath it can leave behind. FMC (F*#k My Cancer) selects one young adult beneficiary per quarter and raises money for the person to use however they desire. Whether it is catching up on medical bills, making a missed car payment, spending a day at the salon, or going on a full-out shopping spree, FMCancer knows that cancer patients not only lose their health and vitality, but miss countless days of work, lose money, deal with overwhelming emotional trauma and truly deserve a reprieve.
About Hilarey Reader Duarte
Smart, sassy, sexy and full of life, 35-year old Hilarey Reader, a veteran in the retail world and top-seller at Louis Vuitton, was diagnosed with breast cancer just five weeks before her wedding day. The strong young woman went into surgery with just over a month to heal before she wed, battling the initial emotional tribulations and financial woes of this kind of diagnosis during what is already an immensely busy, expensive and stressful time in a young woman's life, and which, by all accounts, should be one of the most joyous. The oncologists removed a 2.5mm malignant tumor and 22 (nearly all) of the lymph nodes in her right underarm, realizing that the cancer was worse than expected. She was Stage 3C.
Although she and fiancé Ernie Duarte discussed postponing the wedding, they firmly decided to not let cancer alter the date they had so carefully chosen. She fiercely, and often not so fiercely, fought all of this while putting the final touches on her self-budgeted, self-planned and self-organized wedding. But while Hilarey should’ve reveled in the excitement of dress selection, she worried about the healing and scarring of her surgical wound. When she should’ve enjoyed a relaxing day of primping and priming with her bridesmaids, she instead wondered who’d administer the fertility shots to harvest the eggs that chemo would later have killed. On the night she should have been perfectly poised and completely carefree, she had to leave her reception, remove her wedding dress and receive another shot. And just two days after her wedding, when she should have delighted in the splendor of an unforgettable honeymoon, she lay for hours in a cold hospital receiving the first of six long chemo treatments.
Eight grueling months later, Hilarey has completed her chemo treatments and lost her hair, had a handful of obstacles and related surgeries that have caused her to collectively miss four months of work, and is now bravely tackling daily radiation therapy, kicking cancer’s ass, one step at a time.
