Starbucks closures

Starbucks lists 12 stores it's closing in S. Fla.

Starbucks, hit hard by the nation's economic slowdown, plans to shutter at least 10 stores in Broward and Palm Beach counties and nearly 60 in Florida as part of its previously announced plan to close 600 stores across the country.

The Seattle-based coffee giant revealed its complete list of store closures on its Web site Thursday evening.

Stores closing in Broward include units at 11 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale, the Lakes Mall on State Road 7 in Lauderdale Lakes and at the Coral Square Mall on Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach.

Palm Beach County stores that will close include the unit at Lake Ida and Jog roads in Delray Beach, at Abacoa II on Town Center Drive in Jupiter, at the Boynton Beach Mall on North Congress Avenue, and at City Place II on Rosemary Avenue in West Palm Beach. Also, three stores in Palm Beach Gardens -- at Downtown at the Gardens, the Gardens Mall III and PGA Commons Central -- will shut.

In addition, two stores are closing in Miami-Dade County -- one at Southwest 160 St. and U.S. 1 in Miami and another at 750 NE 125 St. in North Miami.

Thirteen stores are also expected to close in Orlando and surrounding Central Florida area.

When I read about Starbucks closing down stores today, I wasn't the least bit afraid of them filing for bankruptcy or closing down forever. I've been following the whole Starbucks ordeal on savvywallet.com. Even with the free iced coffee on Wednesday promotion, introduction of their fruity smoothies, and free wifi with gift card registrations. The only thing I'm worried about is not enough hotspots for wifi. There are several stores around my area that are closing down, and that's what I'm concerned about. I enjoy walking around the streets, plop down and always be able to find a signal because I know a Starbucks is near. The glory days are over.
